When someone says “Charyot!” to you, you must stop whatever you are doing and take the Charyot Sogi (차렷 서기) salute position, facing the person you are bowing and ready to bow.

It is also important to remain silent during the salute, except to say “Taekwon!”.

How to perform the stance:

  • Heels are together and feet are at an angle.
  • Arms are relaxed and slightly bent.
  • The fists are clenched.
  • Lean slightly forward during the bow.
  • Continue to look straight ahead.
  • Stand up straight without moving after the bow.

When take junbi sogi (준비 서기) stance, it is important to stand straight and still, looking straight ahead to show that you are ready.

You must be ready to act at any moment.

How to perform the stance:

  • Your feet are one shoulder width apart and facing forward.
  • The legs are slightly bent to maintain flexibility and stability.
  • Your hands are slightly below your belt and spread apart.
  • Your elbows are relaxed.
  • Look straight ahead without moving.

Gunnun Sogi (걷는 서기) is a fundamental stance in ITF Taekwon-Do, used in both movement and offensive and defensive techniques.

It helps ensure stability, balance, and power when performing movements.

It is important to maintain a strong, controlled posture, paying attention to weight distribution and body alignment.

Stance rules :

  • The feet are one shoulder width apart
  • The length of the position is one and a half times the width of the shoulders.
  • The front foot is pointed forward, while the back foot has a small angle.
  • Body weight is distributed evenly
  • The front leg is bent, while the back leg remains straight.
  • The body can be half facing or full facing.

The “L” stance is called Niunja Sogi ㄴ자 서기. It is widely used in Taekwon-Do.
It is mainly used for blocks and quick movements.

With this stance, you can attack or block quickly and move easily.

How to perform the stance:

  • The feet form an “L” on the ground.
  • The distance between the feet is about one and a half shoulder widths.
  • The front foot faces forward.
  • The back foot is turned to the side.
  • Most of your body weight is on the back leg.
  • The back leg is bent.
  • The front leg is slightly bent.
